Subject: [*] desktop pictures

This collection is nothing more than a sampling of the pictures I took
on my spring breaks. (All alcohol-related images have been omitted.
Sorry.) I've also included a couple of pictures from my alma mater,
Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I would direct you to my web page
there, but they have recently removed it due to the successful
completion of my career there. They still have their own web page,
though: http://www.muohio.edu

This collection contains no pictures of Florida; I never spent a spring
break there. There is more to this country than beaches and warm
weather, and I tried to see as much of it as possible. (I'm not
anti-Florida, by the way...I lived there for almost 18 years.) I hope
that most college students have at least heard of all the places I've
visited.

Anyway, these JPEGs are primarily intended for use as, yes, desktop
pictures. I've tested them on a Quadra 610 (on System 7.1), a Workgroup
Server 9150/120 (on System 7.5.3), and a PowerBook 5300 (on both System
7.5.5 and Mac OS 8) using a variety of utilities. They work well with
D=E9cor 3.04 and the Desktop Pictures control panel in Mac OS 8; they
don't look quite as nice under DeskPicture 4.5, but that's just as
well...I recommend the first two, anyway. It goes without saying that
they look extremely nice in thousands or millions of colors, but they
don't look too bad under the 16 grays of my PowerBook. (Neither do the
pictures included with OS 8...I have no idea what those look like in
color!)

The European edition will be available as soon as I accumulate enough
shareware money to fly there.

Seriously, though, I expect no financial compensation for this
collection; it is freeware, but not public domain. I retain all
rights, and I ask that you use these pictures as they were intended to
be used. ("Look where we went last summer!" is not an intended use.) If
you like them, feel free to send me e-mail, software, a car that works,
etc. Thanks for downloading them!

Subject: [*] Jon's OS 8 mods

"Jon's OS 8 Mods" is a simple set of ResEdit patches to the Finder and the
System for OS 8.

The Finder patches:
   1. Assign 'Command-S' for Sharing
   2. Assign 'Command-T' for Empty Trash
   3. Add a 'Quit' to the 'Special' menu.

There are two System patches that do the same thing, but for different
monitor sizes:
   1. Stretch the standard 'Open' and 'Save' dialog boxes.
      'bigga 14"' is for 640 x 480 resolution, 'bigga 16"' is for
      all higher resolutions.

May be included on the CD-ROM.

OS 8 Desktop Picture Cycle 1.0 - OS8 is out and it finally incorporates a
desktop
picture. Yay! But it doesn't change it automatically. So I wrote a little ve=
ry
simple AppleScript App that cycles through the pictures/aliases in a designa=
ted
folder every time it's run, so at least every time you start up, the
picture will
have changed. 1) Make a folder on your desktop called "Desktop Pictures" 2)
Add a
picture or alias of a picture and call it "Current Picture" 3) Add up to 10 =
more
pictures/aliases and name them "1", "2", "3" =8A "10" 4) Put the DPC app in =
your
"Shutdown Items" folder in your System Folder. 5) Open the Desktop Picture
control panel and set your picture to the "Current Picture" file in the "Des=
ktop
Pictures" folder.

Subject: [*] Snitch 2.5

Snitch 2.5 improves the Finder's Get Info window by adding information
normally not found there such as a file's type and creator.

With Snitch 2.5, you can view and edit file types and creators, preview
QuickTime movies, JPEGs, Marathon saved games, update aliases, and more.

Snitch 2.5 includes compatibility with MacOS 8 as well as a new batch
info window making
it easier to change information for a large number of items.

Snitch 2.5 is extensible allowing other developers to write their own
plugins to expand Snitch even more.

Snitch 2.5 is compatible with all Macs with at least a 68020 processor
and System 7 or better. Snitch is fully native on Power Macintoshes.

Snitch is shareware at US$20.

Subject: [*] Trygve's CMM Plug-Ins 2.0.1

Trygve's CMM Plug-Ins 2.0.1

These are plug-ins for the MacOS 8 Contextual Menu Manager (PowerPC
only). When you control-click on items in the Finder, a contextual menu
appears, and these plug-ins add new commands to the menu that operate on
the files and folders you clicked.

Version 2.0 simplified the menu organization and added new plug-ins.
Version 2.0.1 fixes a recoverable hang that would occur under certain
conditions.

Here are the plug-ins in this version:

- Convert Text - Converts the selected text files' line endings to Mac,
DOS, or Unix format.
- Cut / Copy / Paste File - Lets you treat files and folders as objects
that can be cut, copied, and pasted.
- Hide / Undo Hide / Show - Hides the selected files and folders. The
previous Hide can be undone. Also lets you show all hidden items in a
folder.
- Lift and Set File Info - Lets you set files' creators and/or types to
the those of other files.
- Lock / Unlock - Locks or unlocks the selected files. Depending on your
access privileges and particular file server capabilities, you can also
lock and unlock folders on a file server.
- Move / Copy / Alias - Lets you move or copy the selected files and
folders to the chosen destination folder or disk. Also lets you make an
alias of the selected items in the destination folder or disk.
- Open With - Lets you open the selected files with the chosen
application.
- Remove Custom Icon - Removes custom icons from the selected files and
folders.
- Set File Info - Sets the selected files' creator and/or type from a
list of choices that you configure by placing files and aliases in the
settings folders.
- Simple Strip HTML - Removes all HTML tags from the selected HTML text
files.
- Touch - Sets the selected files' and folders' modification date to
"now".

More information can be found in the readme file and at the website
listed below. Enjoy!

Subject: [*] Window Monkey 1.2.1

Window Monkey adds background pictures or textures to any window in the
Finder. You can color-code your windows to see at a glance what they
contain, or use wild patterns just for fun. Wouldn't it be great if your
folder of "work stuff" had a background that looked like a legal pad? How
about some hearts for those folders full of love letters? With Window
Monkey installed, patterns aren't just for desktops anymore!

If that weren't enough, this program is useful, too. You can use the
handy Window Monkey menu to quickly go to any window in any application,
even if it's buried beneath many other windows. Window Monkey also
remembers recently used folders and lets you instantly jump to any open
or recently used folder from an Open or Save dialog box.

35 background patterns are included, and you can add as many as you wish
by simply pasting pictures into the control panel. Window Monkey is
completely compatible with Mac OS 8 and other utilities such as Aaron and
Kaleidoscope.

Version 1.2 fixed some small problems with previous versions and adds new
features, especially for Mac OS 8 users; version 1.2.1 merely fixes an
error in the documentation. Details are in the "What's New?" section of
the documentation.
