Subject: [Q] How to turn off blinking in Netscape 3.01

Does anybody know how to disable blinking in Netscape 3.01? Michael Hecht
had written a patch for Netscape 2.02 that changed the two occurrences of
'blink' in DATA resource 0 to 'b666k'. In Netscape 3.01 'blink' occurs
three times in DATA resource 0. I changed all three to 'b666k', but it did
not have any effect on the behaviour of Navigator 3.01. Some sites use
blinks so generously that it is impossible to read their pages.

Thanks, Pieter Stouten <stoutepf@carbon.dmpc.com>

Subject: [Q] Which System for IIfx?

I want to upgrade the system on my old IIfx, too many programs are
beginning to require more recent systems. I have been running 7.0.1. I
have 20 M RAM. I am trying to decide between system 7.5.5 and 7.6.1. I
use a PPP connection and am not sure if I want to be forced into using
Open Transport. Also how much disk space does each require, for an
average installation?

Thank you,

Anyone know of an application, preferably an init, that can keep track of
every keystroke and write the information, periodically, to a file?

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone on this list is aware of a
method to convert files created in Excel for Windows to Excel for
Mac. I was given a disk with data that I cannot access.

Thank you for any and all help!

Subject: dirrectly connecting ethernet

My neighbor has a PC with an ethernet card. I have a Mac with an ethernent
card. Is it possible for us to directly connect to each other over
ethernet cable so as to play games? I believe that a modification has to
be made to the cable since no hub is present. Does anyone have any details
on how to do that? We have acess to any tools we may need. We also are
unsure on how to setup the network. An IPX seems the only one that most
games offer that would utilize an ethernet card. How does a person set up
a personal one. on the PC side and the Mac??? Any hel would be
appreciated.

Subject: Duplicate message in Eudora

Dear Eudora Pro 3.1 users,

Is there a way to remove duplicate messages from a mailbox? I have two
mailboxes which I wish to consolidate into a single mailbox, however, there
are some messages in one which are identical to the other (same message id
etc.). I would like to transfer everything in one into the other, and then
somehow have Eudora remove all duplicates from the final consolidated
mailbox.

Please advise.

Try to obtain a newer version of HDT. My version number is 2.0.6, and I
think it's a good idea to have the latest version if you have a recent
system version as well. You may not have problems with 1.7.8, but who
knows? There are two variants of HDT sold here, a "Personal Edition"
with limited functionality, and a full-blown one. I think in most cases,
the Personal Edition will do.

Best wishes, Christian

I do not try to print form the Mac at the same time, so that it can=B4t=20

There is no problem - even with very large documents - when I print=20

Subject: ImageWriter II and AppleTalk

Hello.

We are a non-profit EMS organisation. We have been donated a Mac SE
from Apple and an LC 475 from a person. We bought an Imagewriter II
and found a second-hand LocalTalk option for it. We also found some
second-hand AppleTalk connections.

Our objective is to connect both computers to the shared printer.

We have:
1) Installed the AppleTalk ImageWriter drivers in the Macs (the SE
is running 6.0.7 and the LC475 is running 7.1)
2) Connected the AppleTalk network.
3) Installed the board in the printer.
4) Restarted the computers, etc...

We have only the printer's manuals and not the board's ones. The
printer still works fine in the "normal" configuration (i.e. only
with the serial cable) but we cannot get the printer driver to "see"
the printer from the Chooser when the AppleTalk ImageWriter driver
is selected.

Is there any ImageWriter dip-switch to be moved when configuring?

We would appreciate very much any help. Please mail us any replies to:

Subject: MS IE blues

Okay, I admit it, I was once tempted to surf with the enemy. I downloaded
IE 3.0 and installed it. I even tried it. For more than a week. And I hated
it. So I erased it. The whole thing. Or so I hoped. But now I find that
any file with an ".htm(l)" extension I download is assigned the IE icon.
Took me a while to figure that out, but then I realized that the IE
installation also changed the Internet Config preferences. Anyway, imagine
my surprise when I reverted to Netscape and found that it tried to connect
to MS's home page upon launching.

Subject: Win95 Long file names and the Mac

Hi all,

I am looking for an extension that will allow me to access the long file
names of Windows 95 on my Mac. I am an engineer involved with taking data
using a PC, copying the files onto a Zip drive, and taking them to my Mac
for analysis. The problem is, that when we use longer file names on the
PC, they get converted to a DOS style file name (8.3) by the Mac because
the computer thinks that the files must comply to that file name
convention. I've looked on the net for something, but haven't had any
success yet.

Thanks for the help
